Works-For-Me Wednesday: MYO Mixes

I do almost all my cooking and baking from scratch these days. One way I keep it simple and fast is to make my own mixes. So far, corn bread, baked oatmeal, pancakes, waffles and lentil-rice casserole are my favorites to keep stocked in my pantry. I simply measure the dry ingredients into a quart-size ziploc bag and then write the remaining ingredients and cooking directions on the bag with a permanent marker.

While I sometimes will take a half hour or so and mix up a few to have on hand, usually I just fill a ziploc bag or two when I am cooking that particular item for a meal. That way I have at least one extra in the pantry ready for quick mixing!

Thank you thank you thank you!! I have been wanting to do this for a long time but couldn't figure out a space saving way to do it. Ziplocks are great, and I really like my homemade cornbread better than jiffy (I add more sugar).

I've seen brownie mixes in jars before, but this is perfect.

I make my own taco seasoning and keep in a jar in the pantry rather than buy the chemical-laden ones at the store. But, oooo...I never thought to do cornbread this way. Great idea!

I need your assistance. I have been cleaning my house here and there but before you know it everything is back to the way it was before i cleaned it.
I get no help whatsoever from the kids or hubby.
What is a good way to get a schedule together to thoroughly do a housecleaning and take care of paperwork? Any suggestions. Seems overwhelming since i have to take my son to baseball and therapy every week. How can accomplish this? Not to mention on wednesdays i go to church.

Thanks, everyone for your comments! Hope you can use this idea.:-)

Martica-I would suggest you check out flylady.net. Her routines are very helpful for getting on a schedule and using baby steps so as to not get too overwhelmed at first.

So who's got a good "sweet" cornbread mix recipe I can try?

GREAT idea! I love to make my own mixes, and making up a couple and keeping them in the pantry is a time saver. Thanks!

Great idea! I've only done this with oatmeal so my kiddos can pop their own in the microwave for breakfast, but I'll have to branch out!

Mary Ann,
Thank you so much for being so helpful. I had tried her website before but never really looked into it.
